In System 6.0.1, a nasty bug seems to have cropped up in the ╥Choose Font╙ Dialog, one that users of Pointless are particularly susceptible to. If the current font does not exist on your system, or you select a font in the Choose Font dialog that has no bitmaps, the computer will lock up, crash, or just plain behave weirdly.
FixFontMgr601 fixes the problem. It is a Permanent Initialization File (PIF) that you can install on your system disk. Put it in the System:System.Setup folder, or let the Finder 6.0.1 place it properly for you by dragging it to the System Folder and reboot your system. Once it is in place, you can forget about it, as it will protect your ChooseFont dialogs under System 6.0.1. Hopefully, in the next release of System 6 (or even 7), this bug will be fixed. If you have a system version other than 6.0.1, FixFontMgr601 will do nothing.
This is a Special Case Item
Because of the nature of the bug, and the fact that we╒re nice guys, you may pass this fix around to any of your friends who use System 6.0.1. Of course, at the same time, you should try to talk them into subscribing to Softdisk G-S (then they can expect more utilities and amazing things every month)!
Copying FixFontMgr601
Select ╥Installer...╙ from the File Menu (or press I) and the Installer will be launched. Then highlight ╥FixFontMgr601╙ by clicking on it. Next, be sure the disk you want to copy the files to is inserted and click on the Disk button until that disk comes up. Click on the Install button and the copying will be done.
